Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking a passionate young intern who is an innovative doer and thinker and interested in making a difference for a better world. OHR promotes a dynamic, adaptable, and mobile workforce with the highest standards of competence and integrity, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the Organization's mandates. This internship is within the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of OHR, part of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy, and Compliance (DMSPC). GSPD serves as the central authority on all human resources management matters, ensuring the Organization has the strategies, policies, frameworks, and tools necessary to attract, develop, and retain a talented and diverse global workforce. The division fosters a culture of engagement, leadership, and results by providing strategic and thought leadership, policy guidance, and innovative solutions for managing talent end-to-end. This includes strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, staff development, performance management, mobility, and appropriate duty of care for all Secretariat staff. The internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension to no longer than six months, depending on the needs of the unit. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office where they are assigned. Examples of tasks include: Administrative and Technical Support: -Support ongoing projects and reform initiatives, providing administrative assistance, in particular the Staff-Management Committee meeting to be held in UNMIK, Pristina in late June. -Assist in preparing materials and content for team presentations, reports, and communications. -Assist in updating and maintaining internal records, databases, and SharePoint files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. Meetings and Documentation: -Attend meetings, conferences, and working groups, summarizing discussions and drafting reports. -Provide support in document editing, tracking changes, and ensuring consistency in technical documents. Research and Data Analysis: -Conduct research on HR-related policies, best practices, and data trends, summarizing key findings. -Collect and analyze data for internal reports. -Develop visual solutions and reports based on multiple data sources to support decision making. Other Tasks: -Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring smooth project execution. -Assist with the development of training materials and coordination of briefings and training sessions. -Contribute to content development for digital platforms, including internal websites and social media. -Collaborate with different teams within OHR to support cross-functional HR initiatives. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Educational background or exposure to human resources, psychology, public administration or related issues is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's,Master's or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI and MS Teams. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
