Setting and Reporting Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary- General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 120 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyses action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. In this role you will strengthen UNDRR’s digital presence, helping enable our Drupal 10 website deliver unified, impactful communications, while directly supporting the publication and continuous improvement of machine-actionable Hazard Information Profiles (HIPs). Your work will help translate complex hazard information into accessible, actionable digital content, bridging the gap between structured data and meaningful user experience. You’ll collaborate with designers, developers, and content teams to shape a platform that informs decisions, supports risk reduction, and amplifies the impact of UNDRR’s knowledge products. You are someone who: • Translates complex information into accessible, actionable digital content with clarity and care • Brings 5+ years of web communications experience, ideally in a mission-driven or international setting • Knows your way around web analytics tools like Google Analytics and Looker Studio, and can turn data into insight • Understands UX principles and knows how to test and iterate digital interfaces for clarity, accessibility, and usability • Has worked in or with Drupal, WordPress, or similar CMS platforms • Writes and speaks fluent English with professional ease, and documents work clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences • Brings a curious, analytical mindset and takes pride in making complex systems more usable, measurable, and impactful Within the limits of delegated authority, the individual contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: - Further machine-actionable HIPs: Assist in releasing HIPs as interoperable RDF/SKOS datasets from Drupal, ensuring metadata quality and schema compliance. - Maintain insight tracking and analytics: Improve, monitor and report on dashboards that track HIP usage, AI-bot interactions and overall content performance, translating findings into actionable recommendations for product owners and content leads. - Champion user experience: Coordinate UX testing for HIP interfaces and other digital touchpoints; drive incremental improvements in collaboration with design, content and accessibility specialists. - Coordinate releases and documentation: Track sprint tasks, compile release notes and keep both technical and stakeholder documentation up to date. - Provide cross-team operational cover: Take on day-to-day tasks from the web team, freeing staff to focus on HIP architecture and other advanced development work. - Collaborate effectively o Engage in weekly stand-ups and ad-hoc consultations with the Communications web team. o Maintain a log of activities, commit code and update tickets daily; respond promptly to inquiries. o Maintain reliable online connectivity and availability for regular MS Teams meetings. o Must be able to work remotely collaborating with colleagues in Geneva and Bangkok, using Teams and other remote communication tools. o Stable Internet connection required. Individual contractor is to be home based. Contractor will report to the UNDRR Website Officer. Qualifications/special skills• 5+ years of experience in web communications are required. • Experience working with web analytics such as Google Analytics is required. • Experience using Looker Studio is desired. • Experience working with data formats such as JSON, RDF, SKOS or similar is required. • Experience with Drupal 10, WordPress or similar is desired.
