5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesWHO in the Western Pacific Together with 37 Member States and areas, we fight infectious diseases like dengue and malaria, and noncommunicable diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Through immunization campaigns and initiatives such as First Embrace, we help mothers and children survive and thrive. We ensure the safety of our environment, our air, our water and our food โ€“ all of which impact our health every day. We prepare for and rapidly respond to disasters and emergencies, never losing sight of the fact that we are dealing with issues of life and death. With the stakes so high, we strive for excellence in working to bring better health and well-being to the nearly 1.9 billion people of the Western Pacific Region.

ContextThe Western Pacific Region is prone to outbreaks and hazards. When an outbreak occurs, the public needs to receive timely and accurate public health advice to protect themselves and their families. Effective risk communication depends not only on clear and accessible messaging but also on the use of engaging and trustworthy visual materials tailored to at-risk populations. In response to increasing requests from countries for diarrhoeal disease risk communication support, often with surveillance challenges and uncertainty about specific disease-causing agents, materials are being developed to provide clear, practical guidance that would be applicable regardless of the underlying cause and can be adapted across different countries and festival contexts. The communication materials developed through this assignment will be ready for rapid deployment when needed. The Online Volunteersโ€™ contributions through this task will support the World Health Organization contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal 3 โ€“ โ€œGood Health and Wellbeingโ€.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for one Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of Technical Officer, Risk Communication and Community Engagement, in close collaboration with the communications team, will provide graphic design support for RCCE materials, ensuring visually compelling and effective communication tools tailored to target audiences. In particular, the Online Volunteer is asked to work on a risk communication package on diarrheal disease: 1. The package will consist of 2 sets of 6 visual tiles. Each tile should reflect a different festival background from the following: Feast of Black Nazarene, Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year & Tแบฟt), Easter/Holy week, Lao/Khmer New Year, Vesak Day, Eid al-Adha, Diwali, Christmas / Year-end holidays The tiles should feature characters representing six cultural groups: East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, Mongolian, Melanesian, Polynesian 2. The package will also include a dosing table (one-pager) for HCWs. An existing festival-themed package is available for adaptation and reference. The Online Volunteer is expected to draw from and adapt the existing materials while ensuring design consistency, visual harmony, and cultural appropriateness across all tiles. Further original design work will be needed to tailor the visuals to the diarrheal disease context and the target cultural groups. The design/layout should follow our corporate design guidelines, which will be shared with the Online Volunteers in advance.
