Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers. In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities. In all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UN Volunteers even more rewarding and productive.
ContextInternational Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of the UN Volunteers (UNV) programme and 25 years since the 2001 International Year of Volunteers. These milestones offer a key moment to celebrate progress, address current challenges, and shape the future of global volunteering. To coordinate activities, UNV has established an international secretariat, working closely with a Scoping Group led by the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE). Partners include IFRC, UNICEF Generation Unlimited, Forum, and the Volunteer Groups Alliance (VGA), alongside UNV’s global network, to ensure IVY 2026 is inclusive, impactful, and globally representative. GLOBAL NATIONAL DIALOGUES – MALAWI SESSION As part of the IVY 2026 initiative, IAVE is leading Global National Dialogues to gather diverse perspectives on strengthening volunteering worldwide. These dialogues ask: “In your context, what needs to change to better recognise and support volunteering, and who is responsible for making it happen?” In Malawi, the dialogue is coordinated by Springs of Hope, a member of IAVE’s Global Network of Volunteering Leadership. It will take place in June 2025 (date tbc) as a hybrid event in Lilongwe-Malawi, enabling inclusive in-person and virtual participation. Insights from Malawi and other countries will inform an Insights Paper (Oct 2025) and the Global Call to Action for the Future of Volunteering, to be launched on International Volunteer Day, 5 Dec 2025. The National Situational Analysis on Volunteerism report for Malawi will inform these discussions and these fact sheets will serve as a tool to increase awareness on the report and the recently launched NVIF.
Task DescriptionUNV is seeking the support of four (4) Online Volunteers - with expertise in graphic design/art to support UNV in generating fact sheets of the National Situational Analysis on Volunteerism report for Malawi and the National Volunteering and Internship Framework (NVIF). The Online Volunteers are expected to work with UNV Malawi by carrying out the following tasks: - Conduct a review of the National Situational Analysis on Volunteerism report for Malawi to have a better understanding of the key findings and themes of the report. - Make meaningful design suggestions that improve the overall product (e.g. poster or infographic) - Create clean-cut and original designs of fact sheets for the report. - Specifically, it is required that each volunteer will create at least 4 graphic designs during this assignment. This should cover (and not limited to) the following aspects: - The findings and recommendations of the National Situational Analysis on Volunteerism report for Malawi report. - Overview of the NVIF, including the key definitions in the document, targeted partners, management of volunteers, prospects for next steps, a call for action to partners - The challenges that volunteers face in Malawi - Recommendations according to different sectors in the economy, aligned to the UNSDF At the end of the assignment, a certificate of appreciation will be issued from UNV. Expected Outcome: • Visually pleasing infographics to help spread awareness about the National Situational Analysis on Volunteerism report for Malawi. • Teamwork and collaboration with the UNV Malawi field unit.
