Gender Equality Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Senior Associate
INTRODUCTION TO GGGI
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page.
GGGI in Guyana has been supporting and implementing development projects since 2018 in the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Forest sectors and has recently expanded its support in the areas of Climate Resilience and Adaptation. Guyana has put great emphasis on addressing climate change because of its strategic importance, as reflected in Guyanaโs national strategy, the Low Carbon Development Strategy, 2030 (LCDS 2030), adopted in 2022.
The GGGI aims to foster inclusive development by promoting equal access and opportunities for all, especially marginalized groups such as women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations. Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) safeguards have been integrated into the GGGI's Project Cycle Management. GGGI has increased its GESI ambition and now has a GESI Strategy for 2021 - 2025, which includes the implementation of Gender Equality and Poverty Reduction Policy Markers on all projects and the implementation of an Environmental, Social, and Governance Safeguards toolkit guiding mainstream environmental, social, and governance considerations in all workstreams. This will be revised to include disability, thus becoming GEDSI. The GEDSI Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that gender equality, disability, and social inclusion principles are integrated across all aspects of the country programโs design, implementation, and evaluation.
The Guyana Country Program focuses on advancing national priorities in adaptation, sustainable forestry, and energy while providing critical management support to the government to ensure the effective implementation of its initiatives. These efforts include fostering resilience against climate impacts, promoting sustainable forest management practices, and facilitating the transition to renewable energy sources. To ensure inclusivity and equity across all projects, the program requires a GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) Senior Associate. This role is essential for integrating GEDSI principles into project planning, execution, and evaluation, ensuring that diverse perspectives are reflected and that marginalized groups benefit from the programโs outcomes. The GEDSI Senior Associate provides cross-cutting support to promote inclusive development and align the program with global best practices for equity and sustainability.
