Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is within the Operational Support Section (OSS) of the International Impartial and Independent Mechanism to Assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 (IIIM), located in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose of the contract is to seek expert assistance to provide consecutive interpretation, Kurdish Kurmanji to English and vice-versa, during various sensitive meetings and interviews. This assignment helps meet the obligations/targets arising from the IIIM mandate to pursue inclusive justice and accountability using a victim and survivor centred approach. The contractor shall provide consecutive interpretation during various high-level meetings and sensitive source meetings / investigative interviews including with highly traumatized vulnerable victims. This contract is to be conducted remotely or could involve travel at short notice to various locations in the Middle East or elsewhere, as required. Certification in Interpretation in English/Kurdish Kurmanji Is desirable Experience: Two years of professional experience in interpretation (Kurdish/Kurmanji/English). Consecutive interpretation including witness interviews in Kurdish Kurmanji/English is required. Experience providing translation to human rights or criminal law investigations or on accountability or human rights-related subjects is desirable. Work experience with an accountability mechanism is desirable. Experience working in the field within a team is desirable. Experience interpreting for victims and survivors of atrocity crimes is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages in the Secretariat. For this position fluency in English and Kurdish-Kurmanji is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of Kurdish-Sorani is desirable. Additional InformationNot available.
