5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNDP works with the Government and people of Pakistan to develop local solutions to development challenges. In an evolving development context, we support Pakistanโ€™s efforts to build a more equitable, prosperous, peaceful and resilient society, and to achieve its SDGs and COP25 targets. UNDP promotes transformational change by fostering strategic partnerships with national counterparts in the federal, provincial and regional governments, civil society, the private sector and the local and international community. UNDP supports transformational change by providing technical assistance focusing on developing capacity within national and local authorities, providing solutions with strong monitoring and evaluation tools, and delivering programmes with maximum efficiency, transparency and accountability. UNDPโ€™s ultimate goal is to improve the lives of the people of Pakistan through keeping people out of poverty; governance for peaceful, just and inclusive societies; crisis prevention and increased resilience; nature-based solutions for development; clean affordable energy; and women's empowerment and gender equality.

ContextBetween June and August 2022, torrential monsoon rains and a combination of riverine, urban, and flash flooding triggered an unprecedented humanitarian and climate-induced disaster across Pakistan. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), around 33 million peopleโ€”nearly one in seven Pakistanis - were affected, with approximately 8 million displaced. The catastrophe claimed more than 1,700 lives, one-third of whom were children. Rain-induced floods, accelerated glacial melt, and subsequent landslides destroyed homes, submerged villages, and severely damaged key infrastructure and livelihoods. In response, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Flood Recovery Programme (FRP), a multi-sectoral initiative designed to support climate-resilient, inclusive recovery in the most severely affected regions. FRP delivers integrated assistance across the following four outputs: 1. Housing and access to /or essential community services restored. 2. Livelihoods restored, and income generation capabilities catalyzed and/or strengthened 3. Governance and service delivery restored and improved 4. Capacities for disaster preparedness and climate resilience strengthened. Under outcomes 1, 3 and 4, FRP is implementing an integrated recovery initiative to support improved agricultural productivity and community well-being for flood affected communities, with a specific focus on small-scale farmers and vulnerable communities, particularly in Dadu District. Through direct rehabilitation and capacity development support for land restoration, irrigation, and drinking water supply, the project seeks to directly contribute towards Pakistanโ€™s post-flood 4RF strategy and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).
