Under the overall supervision of the Supply Chain Officer (SCO) and direct supervision of the Supply Chain Associate (fleet management) in Addis Ababa, and in close collaboration/coordination with the relevant programme unit staff in Addis Ababa, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for driving IOM vehicles to transport persons and goods authorized by IOM, from one destination to another in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner, promoting a client and efficient service-oriented approach.   1. Drive assigned IOM office vehicle(s).
  2. Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) to ensure roadworthiness of the vehicles.ย  This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc. and keep track/log for the periodic maintenance and to report any problems sighted as soon as possible
  3. Arrange for minor repairs and ensure that the vehicles are kept clean.
  4. Ensure that the vehicles undertake regular service intervals.
  5. Keep records of spare parts for vehicle(s) and conduct monthly inventory of the spare parts.ย 
  6. Find the mostย direct and safe route over the best available roads to the destination.
  7. Ensure that the IOM vehicle(s) is used only for official/authorized business, as advised by the supervisor.
  8. Make sure that the daily log sheet is prepared, and a monthly report is prepared summarizing statistics linked to mileage, fuel consumption, etc. for the vehicle.
  9. Keep a high degree of confidentiality and discreteness in discussions, which involves IOM and its officials. Take proper actions to reduce potential security threats to IOM officials and/or property within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and along transport routes.
  10. Meet official personnel at the airport(s) and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
  11. Ensure that all the communication system devices (radio HF, VHF) in the vehicle are in good working condition and inform the security focal staff and supervisor of any malfunctions.
  12. Ensure that all safety tools and accessories such as First aid kit, spare tyres, jack & handle are available in the vehicles and any missing tool must be reported immediately to the Supervisor.
  13. Ensure that all road safety and traffic regulations are obeyed including wearing of seat belts by driver and all passengers.
  14. Ensure that in case of accident, the supervisors and Office of Staff Security personnel in the mission are informed, and a police report is obtained.ย 
  15. Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications/items from and to the country office; go to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required.
  16. When needed, assist and support the IOM beneficiaries/clients during pick up, transportation and drop off.
  17. Ensure that the keys are returned for safeguarding at the end of the shift
  18. Perform such other duties as may be assigne.ย  Education
    • High school diploma/certificate with minimumย 2ย years of relevant working experience from an accredited institution.
    • Valid national driverโ€™s licence the ability to drive automobiles, , Landcruiser , Van (up to 20-seater) , Coaster (up to 45-seater) bus (up to 60-seater), pick-up, and truck.
    • Possession of Mechanical certificate from an accredited school is advantageous.
    • Certificate of good conduct from the police (required if selected) Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. ย  Experience
      • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and specific country regulations.
      • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles
      • Good knowledge and working experience with communication system devices (radio HF, VHF)
      • Good knowledge of routes within and around the duty station Skills
        • Skills in minor vehicle maintenance and repairs
        • Skills in Auto mechanic is advantageous
        • Basic computer skills specifically on Microsoft office is advantageous.
        • Excellent communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills with ability to work well in a multicultural environment
        • Flexible working modalities and ability to handle pressure is desirable.
        • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Languages
          • For this position, Basic knowledge in English is required (oral and written) IOMโ€™s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
