Work LocationHome based Expected duration12 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Law Division works with international and non-governmental organizations, national and local governments, businesses, and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of Conventions and international Agreements. UNEP serves as an Implementing Agency of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Through its OzonAction Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP), UNEP delivers targeted technical and policy support to empower National Ozone Units (NOUs). This assistance enables NOUs to effectively implement activities approved by the Executive Committee of the Multilateral Fund, meet their compliance obligations under the Montreal Protocol, and address the evolving technological and operational needs of stakeholders involved in national-level implementation. Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer โ ExCom/Partnerships, and under the overall guidance of the Head of OzonAction, the consultant will undertake the following tasks: โข Task 1: Support ExCom related work of OzonAction a) Assist in reviewing assigned MLF funded projects (20 projects in total between ExCom-97 and ExCom-98, depending on the confirmed submissions from the regions), ensure that they are prepared in compliance with relevant ExCom decisions and associated guidelines. b) Analyse the submitted MLF-funded projects for proposed activities. โข Task 2: Support the work of the INWIC Secretariat a) Perform day-to-day management of INWICโs operations. b) Implement assigned INWIC activities including the online membership and mentoring platform. c) Support the INWIC Board and Working Groups including the organisation of their regular meetings and maintaining all documentation, minutes, and decisions from those meetings d) Collaborate in the preparation for INWIC events and the organization of meetings, including facilitation, preparation of presentations, concept notes and minutes. โข Task 3: Support Gender related work of the OzonAction a) Collaborate in conducting research, information gathering and analysis, as well as consultation with experts for the development of documents/factsheets for the implementation of the MLFโs Gender Policy in UNEP OzonAction projects. b) Collaborate in analysis of UNEPโs MLF-funded projects for assessment of how gender considerations are reflected in project preparation, implementation and reporting. โข Task 4: Support promotion of Global Partnership products and initiatives a) Perform periodic analysis and prepare the report on use of UNEP-ASHRAE products b) Provide support to OzonAction activities with ASHRAE, AREA, IIR, U-3ARC, WRD Secretariat, and others c) Suggest, design, and develop internal/external briefings about OzonAction partnership activities d) Create promotional materials leaflets and flyers for Global Partnership products and tools. Qualifications/special skillsโข At least a first degree in science, environment, engineering, law, business, public policy, or other relevant areas is required. โข Other academic qualifications in combination with qualifying 2 years working experience in related field may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor's degree. At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience is required. Proven working knowledge of the Montreal Protocol and Ozone Layer protection programmes and projects is required. Experience with international initiatives and public awareness campaigns is desirable. Experience in gender equality and womenโs empowerment initiatives is desirable.
