Position Overview

The Environmental Services Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment throughout the facility. This role involves cleaning and sanitizing patient areas, common spaces, offices, and other areas to ensure compliance with health, safety, and cleanliness standards. The Environmental Services Attendant plays a key role in promoting infection prevention and creating a welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely collect, segregate, and dispose of general, infectious, and hazardous waste according to hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Landscaping and gardening.
  • Storm water drainage cleaning and maintenance.
  • Wastewater system cleaning and maintenance.
  • Placenta pit management & maintenance.
  • Vector control.
  • Caregiver toilet cleaning and disinfection
  • Replenishing environmental services related consumables in designated areas.
  • Monitor supply levels and report shortages to the supervisor.
  • Clean and maintain equipment used.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, infection control policies, and cleaning procedures.
  • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
  • Report any maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards promptly.
  • Interact courteously with patients, visitors, and staff.

    Education and Work Experience Requirements:

    • Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles.
    • Disciplined flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn from others.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
    • Energy and stamina to withstand long working hours and often stressful conditions.
    • Having fast analytical skills for risk assessment and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Interest in social justice, healthcare, and a preferential option for the poor.
    • Professional proficiency in Krio is required and proficiency in English is an added advantage.
    • Be able to read and write.
    • Previous experience in environmental services within hospital setting.
    • Familiarity with environmental services equipment and disinfection processes.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
    • Ability to follow instructions, work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good time management and organizational skills.
