Mission and objectives WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. As the world changes, innovation is critical to enable the World Food Programme (WFP) to meet global needs and to deliver on its mandate to end hunger. Launched in 2016, the WFP Innovation Accelerator identifies, supports and scales high potential solutions to hunger worldwide. We support WFP intrapreneurs and external start-ups and companies from our home in Munich, Germany, through financial support, access to a network of experts and a global field reach. The Accelerator believes the way forward in the fight against hunger is not necessarily in building grand plans, but identifying and testing solutions in an agile way. It is a space where the world can find out what works and what doesnโt in addressing hunger - a place where we can be bold, and fail as well as succeed.
ContextWe are coordinating the localisation of a smartphone app developed by the UN World Food Programme called โShareTheMealโ (https://sharethemeal.org/) into Norwegian. ShareTheMeal is an app from the World Food Programme that enables people to \"share their meals\" with children in need. We are greatly excited about our achievements and future campaigns in which we attempt to fight child hunger all over the world.
Task DescriptionThis fully remote-assignmen involves translation of English to Norwegian and assisting with translations 1-5 hours per week. We are looking for Online Volunteers who would be willing to work with us for a minimum of 12 weeks. Each translation task (a combination of a google sheet and a link to the Crowdin project) goes out on Friday, and we would need it back by Monday. Therefore, this task requires weekend contribution. Each translation sheet varies in length, but averages about 1000 words. As most of the texts are short, translations can mostly be entered into e-mail, Word docs or Excel sheets. Additionally, we utilize a translation platform called Crowdin with glossaries and screenshots for context. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to translate a short paragraph as part of the selection process.
