The Engineering Technician reports to the Chief of Facilities & Environmental Management Unit to support the construction of military camps and implementation of advanced and sustainable facilities with a view of reducing the Mission's environmental footprint during peacekeeping operations. ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the Chief Facilities & Environmental Management Unit, the Engineering Technician will undertake the following tasks: Administration โข Maintain records relating to inventories, work orders and general correspondence. โข Prepare bills of quantities and costing for infrastructure projects. โข Assist in carrying out technical assessments and existing buildings and infrastructure. โข Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for infrastructure projects and maintenance programmes. โข Specify engineering construction materials. โข Advise on the promotion of best practices in relation to facility management, minor engineering construction works, ensuring compliance with UN legislations and standards. โข Advise on the most advanced, cost effective, and low maintenance smart/remote monitoring solutions for asset and facility management based on implemented construction activities. โข Assist in technically evaluating bids and proposals for construction projects. โข Provides input periodically for assessment of performance levels of assigned local international staff. โข Alert the supervisor of the unit/section of unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or are likely to occur. Identify root causes for underperformance and propose corrective actions for process improvement. โข Formulate Standard Operating Procedures for measuring Key Performance Indicators and Monitor performance indicators for assigned projects and related contracts management within the Unit as required Operations โข Assist in the planning, design, and supervision of new construction projects, including developing statements of works, bills of quantities and drawings โข Install service, maintain and repair, in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes, buildings, camps/sanitary infrastructures or other structures. โข Diagnose technical faults and carry out scheduled and preventive maintenance of all structures in the Mission and periodically inspect ongoing projects using mission platforms. โข Operate a wide variety of tools and power equipment including saws, drills, common workshop machinery, voltage testers, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, welding/soldering equipment and other tools and equipment. Ensure that all materials used, and work are performed are in accordance with the specifications. โข Perform diagnostic and preventive maintenance of buildings and infrastructure. โข Perform technical or other assessments of installations, and buildings and infrastructure and perform technical or other reports. Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise โข โข Apply and ensure adherence to safety programmed relate to material installations, electrical systems, generating sets or buildings and maintenance trade. โข Conducting in-house training to trade men and artisans on the imaging technical skills in the new construction methods, installation of specialized equipment, fault finding and remedy. โข Review and recommend for approval work orders and assign day-to-day repair and maintenance tasks to tradesmen and technicians being supervised. โข Inspect and report on construction project work and maintenance work carried out either by contractors or tradesmen and staff under supervision and ensure proper utilization of available resources. โข Read and interpret specification and technical drawings, schedules, manuals for construction projects, installations and upgrade repair infrastructure. โข Resolve problems; inspect quality of work and work performance. โข Performs other duties, as assigned.
