Work LocationRemote Expected duration4 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the designated ESCWA Project Manager, the consultant will: Assess the current state of education systems in the Arab region in the context of AI readiness, skills development, and labor market demands. Conduct a gap analysis of existing curricula, training programs, and vocational systems in preparing youth and adults for AI-driven economies. Examine current and emerging global best practices in AI-related education, digital skills development, STEM promotion, reskilling and lifelong learning frameworks. Analyze the intersection of gender, digital inclusion, and skills development, identifying pathways to promote women's participation in AI-related sectors. Contribute to Chapter 2 of the study on the state of education, employment trends, and digital skills in the region. Contribute to Chapter 4 by formulating targeted policy recommendations for Arab countries on: o Reforming education systems to embed AI literacy and future skills o Designing scalable reskilling and upskilling initiatives for vulnerable populations o Promoting public-private partnerships for workforce development Contribute to Chapter 5 by recommending immediate policy actions to launch pilot programs, AI curriculum development, teacher training, and regional collaboration mechanisms. Participate in coordination meetings and peer review sessions with ESCWA and other consortium members. Ensure that all analysis is evidence-based and aligned with ESCWAโs foresight-driven scenario framework. Qualifications/special skillsA PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Education Technology, or related disciplines, is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. At least 15 years of academic, research, and consulting experience in AI, digital transformation, and education systems reform is required. Proven expertise in AI education policy, skills gap analysis, reskilling frameworks, and lifelong learning program design is required. Extensive experience advising governments, UN agencies, or international organizations on AI policy or national AI plans is required. Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills in English is required. Demonstrated publication record and academic recognition in AI and education (including significant research funding and international awards) is desirable. Familiarity with the Arab regionโs educational and labor market context is desirable. Experience in multi-stakeholder collaboration and technical capacity development is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
