5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesAnchored in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in line with the priorities outlined in the UNDP Strategic Plan, the Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) supports the Arab States region to achieve sustainable development by eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, accelerating structural transformations for sustainable development, and building resilience to crises and shocks. In addition to its presence in New York, RBAS has its main office in the Regional Hub based in Amman, Jordan with some staff based in Beirut (Lebanon) and Dubai (UAE). The Amman Regional Hub hosts regional initiatives under the Regional Programme for Arab States 2022-2025 which touches upon the following areas of work: governance and anti-corruption, regional cooperation for the reduction of poverty and inequality, knowledge economy, conflict prevention and peacebuilding, climate security, youth engagement and empowerment, gender equality, resilience building, among others.

ContextWomenโ€™s access to financial services is a key enabler for womenโ€™s access to formal employment and successful entrepreneurship. It is thus an essential step in reaching Jordan's Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV) objectives for women workforce participation. The National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, led by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ), acknowledges the current low level of access to financial services, especially for women, and includes objectives to increase account ownership for the whole population, to close the gender gap in account holding, and to increase the use of financial services such as loans, saving, digital payment, and insurance. With more than 70 fintech startups in Jordan the landscape could be conducive to womenโ€™s empowerment by allowing for tailored services and extended privacy and control over their finances, which can improve their agency in exercising their preferences. The Fintech for Womenโ€™s Economic Empowerment project seeks to enhance economic empowerment of women, by expanding their access to finance. UNDP Jordanโ€™s efforts focus on facilitating the availability of gender-responsive products to foster womenโ€™s engagement in the green economy, increase their access to resources, and dismantle structural barriers impeding their full integration into the labour market. Within this project, in a collaboration between UNDP Jordan country office and the RBAS, an SDG Digital Finance Ecosystem (SDFE) assessment was conducted following an established methodology. The 90-page report in English identifies gaps and opportunities within the domestic digital finance ecosystems and measures the extent to which the digital finance ecosystem is aligned with national development priorities. The SDFE Assessment looks at over 100 indicators in the areas of (i) financial inclusion (ii) policy and regulation, (iii) skills, (iv) digital infrastructure, (v) FinTech and innovation and (vi) SDG-alignment of FinTech and government digital strategies. The assessment utilizes a mix of desk review, surveys and interviews to gather its large collection of data.
