The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic\nResearch Office (AMRO) hasย vacanciesย in the Country Surveillance Group for Economist position.\n\n
The successful candidate will\nreport to the designated Group of the Surveillance Group who is the\nMission Chiefs for the countries. The candidate should have good understanding\nof macroeconomics and international finance and be knowledgeable about ASEAN+3\neconomies. Strong communication and coordination skills are also essential.\n\n
Job\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n
- Assist\nthe Group in the planning and implementation of the group's work plan in\nsupport of AMRO's overall goals, ensuring efficiency, relevance, and impact of\nAMRO's surveillance work.
- Be\nresponsible for conducting surveillance of countries including:
- collecting\ndata, monitoring, and analyzing developments in the countries, at both the\ncountry and sectoral levels.
- identifying\nrisks and vulnerabilities facing the countries and formulating policy\nrecommendations to address them.
- drafting\nbriefing notes for annual consultation and interim visits and for management\nmeetings with authorities and other institutions.
- developing\nwork programs, participating in annual consultations and interim visits, and\npreparing initial drafts of country consultation reports.ย
- providing\nregular updates to the Group Heads and senior management on developments and\nissues in the countries.
- conducting\nresearch on economic issues pertaining to the countries.\n\n
- Contribute to region-wide\nsurveillance and country surveillance activities of other ASEAN+3 economies as\nassigned.
- Plan and conduct economic and\nfinancial studies and research under the guidance of the Group .
- Collect\nand manage relevant data from the ASEAN+3 (ASEAN, China, Japan, and Korea)\nauthorities, IFIs, private sector, and other data sources.
- Guide Associate Economist and\nResearch Analysts.
- Maintain\ngood relations with the authorities and liaise with authorities on relevant\nsurveillance matters between AMRO and the countries, as well as other member\neconomies.
- Perform\nother tasks as assigned by Group Head or Senior Management.\n\n
Institutional Responsibilities:\n\n
- Participate\nin any institution-wide activity, such as AMRO's internal committees or task\nforces, as assigned.
- Facilitate\ntraining/seminars/workshops to disseminate knowledge to AMRO staff and external\nstakeholders.
- Perform\nany other duty as may be reasonably required in furtherance of AMRO's overall\ngoals.\n\n
The\ncandidate should possess:\n\n
- A\nPhD or Master's degree in economics, or related fields, from a reputable\nuniversity.
- At\nleast 5 years of relevant work experience and knowledge in economics and/or\nfinance, including macro-financial modelling and policy.
- Strong\nanalytical ability and capacity to conduct rigorous research.
- High\nlevel of familiarity with ASEAN+3 economies and policies; experience in\nmacroeconomic, financial, and fiscal sector surveillance, and empirical\nresearch would be a significant advantage.
- Strong\nfamiliarity with key third-party economics and finance databases, such as\nBloomberg, CEIC, Haver Analytics, Refinitiv (Datastream), would be an\nadvantage.
- Proficiency\nin software applications such as Microsoft Office and high proficiency in the\napplication of econometric packages, such as EViews, MATLAB, Stata; proficiency\nin programming languages such as Python and R would be beneficial.
- Strong motivation and willingness to take\ninitiative and accountability for the accuracy of both data and analyses; Demonstrated\nteam spirit with strong negotiation and communication skills to interact\neffectively with leagues and officials from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- High proficiency in written and spoken English.
