The Economic Policy (EP) Global Practice
The EP Global Practice leads the World Bank Groupโ€™s dialogue and engagement with clients in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, jobs, and investment. In our day-to-day engagement with countries, EP supports authorities in their pursuit of reform agendas conducive to strengthening inclusive growth. EP responds to client countriesโ€™ development needs with rigorous country diagnostics, country strategies, and policy lending, and other country-level and global analytical products that support World Bank Group and IFC engagements.ย ย 
Duties and Accountabilities:
The World Bank Country Office in Croatia is seeking a highly organized, energized and experienced professional, capable of operating effectively in a very demanding and fast-paced environment to serve as an economist in the EP Global Practice on a term contract spanning two years. The Economist will work in the EP Global Practice team for Croatia and potentially other countries in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region to provide substantive research, analytical and statistical assistance in support of the work program. In particular, the Economist will:
โ€ข Participate in the policy dialogue with the authorities in Croatia and other stakeholders, in close collaboration with the Sr. Country Economist and the Country Management Unit (CMU);โ€ข Take part in the preparation of key strategic and integrative pieces and/or engagements in Croatia;โ€ข Participate in country-specific macroeconomic monitoring activities and provide inputs as needed for corporate briefs and for due diligence on macro-fiscal issues;โ€ข Maintain the macroeconomic, fiscal,ย  and trade databases that the EP team uses for economic monitoring and analytical purposes;โ€ข Work closely with other Global Practices as needed.

Selection Criteria

โ€ข Minimum of a masterโ€™s degree in economics with five years of relevant professional experience (A completed PhD is equivalent to 3 years of relevant professional experience);ย โ€ข Strong technical skills on macroeconomic, fiscal and growth issues and a track record in delivering high quality and technically sophisticated analytical work;โ€ข Deep understanding of Croatiaโ€™s public sector and local labor market conditions;โ€ข Knowledge of EUโ€™s fiscal framework, as well as green and migration agenda;โ€ข Integrative skills in order to support the CMU in articulating its strategic thinking on macroeconomic issues, economic growth and poverty reduction and to articulate a coherent policy dialogue with the authorities;โ€ข Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, and teamwork qualities;ย โ€ข Ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments and adjust to a variety of complex evolving tasks to meet deadlines;โ€ข High energy and demonstrated interest in achieving impact through analytical work and technical assistance for demanding and sophisticated clients.ย
