Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship
The position of Economics Officer is assigned to the Pacific Subregional Office in Fiji (SPSO) within the Pacific Department (PARD). PARD is responsible for maintaining client relations, delivering ADB assistance to countries in the Pacific region, and coordinating with development partners. SPSO was established in 2004 and is responsible for country programming, portfolio management, processing and implementation of projects in various sectors of projects for Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu. You will be based at the Pacific Subregional Office in Suva, Fiji. You will report to SPSO Regional Director or designated international staff.
Your Role
As an Economics Officer, you will provide technical knowledge in economics; conduct economic analysis and forecasting; monitor economic, social, and political developments; maintain and manage databases; and administer relevant technical assistance (TA) projects in the assigned SPSO countries.
You will:
- Monitor, analyze and report on country economic, social, and financial sector developments ; contribute to economic bulletins and country and regional cooperation profiles; and maintain a comprehensive database on key indicators of the economy.
Qualifications
You will need:
Bachelor's degree in economics or finance preferably with advanced training. At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, including evaluating macroeconomic performance and undertaking sector economic analysis. Professional experience in international agencies will be an advantage. Seasoned knowledge of public policy, public financial management, and macro-economic planning will be an advantage. Proficiency in common office software and systems used in similar multilateral organizations. Proven ability to undertake background research and analysis on difficult but well-defined tasks, collect and organize required information. Ability to effectively manage work and deliverables within timeline and standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew for an initial period of three years following Section 3.1 (b) of Administrative Order No. 2.01 (\"Recruitment and Appointment'). This appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment. It may be extended on an exceptional basis for a further fixed period at the option of ADB. This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.
This vacancy is a regional staff position with local remuneration package. It is open to nationals and permanent residents residing in the duty station, Fiji Islands, and ADB member countries in the Pacific region such as Australia, Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, New Zealand, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
