Setting and ReportingThis post is located in the Vehicle Regulations, Road Traffic Safety and Transport Innovations Section of the Sustainable Transport Division of the Economic Commission for Europe, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the P-5, Chief, Vehicle Regulations, Road Traffic Safety and Transport Innovations Section, and the overall supervision of the D-1, Chief of Service, Sustainable Transport Division. Responsibilities1. Provide secretariat services to the following intergovernmental bodies: โข Group of Experts on the European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles engaged in International Road Transport (AETR) โข Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety (WP.1), including its Groups of Experts. This involves: the preparation of documentation, agendas, reports for the meetings of these bodies; the servicing of these meetings; and undertaking follow-up action. 2. Provide assistance to governments, to bodies mentioned in para. 1 above in updating and implementing the UN/ECE legal instruments, resolutions and recommendations developed by those bodies. 3. Act as project manager, including project design, implementation and fund raising, for analytical work and capacity building in the field of road traffic safety related to the work of the WP.1 and the related UN sustainable development goals. 4. Contribute to the work in the field of global road safety, including promotion of accession to and implementation of UN road safety conventions. 5. Represent the secretariat at conferences and meetings within and outside ECE. 6. Ensure the appropriate visibility of the work and achievements in road traffic safety. 7. Supervise junior staff, as needed. 8. Perform other related duties as required. EducationAdvanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent), in economics, law, civil engineering, or related area is required. Further specialization in transport is desirable. Work ExperienceAt least seven years of progressively responsible experience is required in a national or international administration or organization dealing with road traffic safety or private enterprise operating in the same or related fields. Experience in servicing international meetings, including the drafting of meeting reports is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. Either French or Russian is desirable.
