BACKGROUNDย 

The World Bank Group (WBG) Fitness Center serves WBG staff in three facilitiesโ€”in its MC building, F building, and C buildingโ€”at its Washington DC headquarters. For over 20 years, the WBG has provided fitness classes, educational sessions, and facility access to members to promote the health, fitness, and well-being.ย 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The WBG Fitness Center staff member reports to the WBG Fitness Center Program Officer and works at their direction in collaboration with other WBG Fitness Center staff. The WBG Fitness Center Staff member provides daily leadership for the Fitness Center pertaining to vendor personnel management, supervision, training and professional development, membership management, equipment purchase recommendations, equipment maintenance, emergency action planning, resource management (towel service, equipment inventories, group fitness class attendance tracking, etc.), analytics and reporting on fitness center operations, and support for programming, marketing, communications, and outreach.ย 

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service and professional development skills pertaining specifically to personal trainers, membership representatives, and group fitness instructors, coupled with experience in fitness center operations, including a strong understanding of corporate fitness, health, and wellness programs.ย 

KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIESย 

In collaboration with other GCSHF staff:
โ€ข Acts as on-site supervisor and WBG Fitness Center Program Officerโ€™s designee during assigned shifts.ย  Accepts responsibility for facilities, processes, and personnel.
โ€ข Oversees vendor personnel management and supervision to ensure vendor performance aligns with contractual obligations and leads day-to-day and weekly direction of all vendor teams
โ€ข Supports the administration of fitness center operations, including membership, group fitness class scheduling and delivery, special programming, and operational and financial reporting, in addition to approved collaborations.
โ€ข Ensures accurate use of membership management software in line with the WBG Fitness Center policy and procedures to provide data and statistical analysis for reporting.
โ€ข Supports vendor in maintaining standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals for all WBG Fitness Center system processes.
โ€ข Facilitates fitness center scheduling of deliveries, receiving, inventories, and distribution of resources including but not limited to towels, apparel, equipment, etc.
โ€ข Collaborates on the design and promotion of activities and programs to meet member demand.
โ€ข Maintains a high level of member relations and collaborates on communications plans for member outreach, etc.
โ€ข In collaboration with WBG partners, integrates fitness, health, and wellness initiatives including the planning, implementation, and assessment of all programming and events.
โ€ข Teaches up to two group fitness classes per week and delivers up to eight personal training sessions weekly, as assigned by the WBG Fitness Center Program Officer or delegate, and in accordance with program standards. Act as the last resort substitute (if qualified)ย 
โ€ข During peak facility usage hours (typically 12:00pm โ€“ 2:00pm and 5:00pm โ€“ 7:00pm), prioritizes member-facing duties such as staffing the member services desk or actively moving throughout the facility. Peak times may vary as needed
โ€ข In addition to supporting the administration of health and safety checks on all facility equipment and fixtures, works closely with the WBG Fitness Center Program Officer to develop and maintain a system of equipment, personnel certification, and facility maintenance, which informs future investments.
โ€ข Assists in managing all facility AV systems including music and video equipment, playlists, screens, and overhead announcement procedures and processes.ย  Coordinates with ITS and Facilities teams as needed.ย 
โ€ข Represents the World Bank Group within the unit to ensure all priorities and standards are upheld within the fitness center facilities.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
โ€ข Requires physical activity including running, jumping, bending, reaching, lifting, throwing and prolonged periods of sitting, standing, typing, or walking.
โ€ข Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs. as a core job requirement.

Selection Criteria

Attention: \"Preference will be given to local talent, that is, applicants that are authorized to work in the duty station for any employer. Internal applicants may apply per existing guidelines.\"

โ€ข Candidates are required to have a bachelorโ€™s degree in business management, health, fitness, or wellness-related field, and a minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ experience in fitness center operations
โ€ข Able to work 8 hour shifts, initially Monday โ€“ Friday, 1:00PM โ€“ 9:00PM workday.ย  Shift may be modified with noticeย  for 8-hour shift, ranging from 5:50AM โ€“ 9:00PM depending on operational needs
โ€ข Current GCSHF-approved fitness instruction, personal training, and CPR/AED certifications.
โ€ข Knowledge and experience in fitness center programming and administration.
โ€ข Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, staff, consultants, and volunteer instructors; manage membership communications, recruitment, and retention; and provide diplomatic, culturally sensitive customer service to members and colleagues at all levels, including VIPs.
โ€ข Solid understanding of fitness center membership management and financial software(s).
โ€ข Solid analytic skills to report on membership, utilization, operations etcย 
โ€ข Excellent verbal and written skills in English, with the ability to produce and distribute technical written communications and reports to corporate partners.
โ€ข Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
โ€ข Enthusiastic, customer-service oriented, and ability to carry out tasks with high degree of diplomacy and precision.
โ€ข Problem-solving mindset and ability to tactfully engage member complaints/concerns.
โ€ข Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and web-based applications.
