Under the overall guidance of management, the Director is responsible for providing strong intellectual leadership and strategic vision in planning, managing, and supervising the work of the African Department (AFR). The Director will also be responsible for further developing the Fundโ€™s strategy in Africa and more broadly to contribute to corporate strategies of the institution. AFRโ€™s primary functions are: to advise management and the Executive Board on matters concerning the economies and economic policies of 45 Sub-Saharan African member countries; to provide macroeconomic policy advice to these countries; and to implement Fund policies with respect to these countries, aimed at promoting and preserving macroeconomic stability, and improving the conditions for sustained economic growth; to provide financial assistance where needed to cover balance of payments needs and facilitate external adjustment; and to ensure appropriate prioritization of capacity development activities, i.e., technical assistance and training to support institutional developments.
