Terms of ReferenceMission and objectives:
UNHCR works to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution, war or disaster at home. UNHCR helps save lives and build better futures for millions forced from their homes and an important part of the projects implemented is to give institutional visibility of its actions to several targets and ways of interested.
As part of its communication strategy, UNHCR Brazil requires the services of a professional audiovisual content producer with proven experience in documentary-style storytelling, institutional branding, and communication for social impact. The objective is to expand and enhance visibility of the refugee situation and UNHCRโ€™s work through engaging, technically sound, and contextually sensitive video and photo materials aligned with the organizationโ€™s identity and narrative framework.

Assignment context:
The Digital Engagement Assistant will support UNHCR Brazilโ€™s Communication Unit by producing high-quality audiovisual content for multiple platforms runed by UNHCR Brazil โ€“ ranging from social media videos and multimedia reports to institutional campaigns and public advocacy initiatives. This content must be informed by human rights principles, communicate with empathy, showing effective results, and be suitable for audiences including the youth, donors, government partners, private sector, digital influencers and forcibly displaced communities themselves. The professional will be incorporated in the national plan strategy, which covers the demand of all the UNHCR Brazil offices, focused on strategic, effective and creative pieces also to support the UNHCR global contents.

Task description:
Under the supervision of the Communications Officer and in close collaboration with the broader External Relations team, the Digital Engagement Assistant will:

. Conceptualize, produce, film and edit short and long-form videos and photographic materials for institutional and digital use.
. Support the production of multimedia campaigns with creative visual storytelling aligned with UNHCRโ€™s global brand guidelines, respecting all the cultural and singular characteristics of everyone interviewed.
. Ensure appropriate consent and protection protocols are applied when filming with persons of concern.
. Edit existing video content recorded by the various colleagues all over the operation of all UNHCR offices into compelling short cuts for the UNHCR social media channels, also uploading photos and videos at the UNHCR media library (media.unhcr.org).
. Create a store at SharePoint to organize footage following UNHCRโ€™s file management protocols, organizing folder structure with metadata and credits.
. Conduct field visits (when requested) to gather footage, interviews and testimonials, particularly in areas with refugee and asylum-seeking populations and with relevant projects supported by donors and other partners.
. Promote training sessions with colleagues to share skills and improve the internal capacity of audiovisual registration, while continuously giving feedback and further technical assistance.
. Deliver finalized audiovisual content with subtitles in three idioms (Portuguese, English and Spanish), branding, credits and necessary adaptations for different platforms.
. Support the development of video scripts and concepts in coordination with the Communications Unit.
. Coordinate with designers, animators, audio producers or motion graphic professionals (when needed).
. Perform other related duties, as required.

Required education: Bachelor degree or equivalent

Area(s) of specialization (education): Communications in general, including graduation or post-graduation in journalism, advertisement, cinema and documentary, multimedia production.

Minimum of three years of effective experience in audiovisual content production.
The candidate must have proven experience in audiovisual production for social and/or humanitarian projects, present a strong portfolio including examples of documentaries, digital campaigns, and human rights-related videos.
. Diverse experience with different clients and audiences, delivering high quality audiovisual contents which must also provide effective results according to the described objectives of each project.
. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Canva and CapCut or other professional editing software.
โ€ข Essential:
Minimum of three years of effective experience in audiovisual content production.
The candidate must have proven experience in audiovisual production for social and/or humanitarian projects, present a strong portfolio including examples of documentaries, digital campaigns, and human rights-related videos.
. Diverse experience with different clients and audiences, delivering high quality audiovisual contents which must also provide effective results according to the described objectives of each project.
. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Canva and CapCut or other professional editing software.
. Experience producing content and management of social media platforms (short-form storytelling, documentary, creative videos, and institutional contents).
. Strong understanding of visual identity, tone, and branding in institutional communication.
. Familiarity with ethical representation and working with vulnerable groups, promoting their inclusion in the audiovisual process as much as possible โ€“ capacity to build up and share knowledge within the team.
. Ability to work in fast-paced environments and deliver under tight deadlines, holding client and result orientation focus.
. Creativity, adaptability, strong problem-solving skills and teamwork and collaboration
. Availability to travel for short missions in Brazil (if required), also being related with other countriesโ€™ colleagues (specially from Europe and the Americas).

. Previous work with UN agencies, NGOs, or government institutions.
. Knowledge of humanitarian principles, refugee protection, and forced displacement issues.
. Proven experience with vulnerable groups such as refugees, indigenous, LGBTQI+ people and low-income population.

Living conditions and other remarks:
The assignment will be in Brasรญlia, the Federal capital of Brazil and seat of government of the Federal District. Brasilia is a family duty station and classified A (hardship). The living conditions in Brasilia are good as well as the access to health services. The accommodation facilities are in general good, and the choice is wide. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. Brazil is security level 3 (moderate). United Nations Department of Safety and Security UNDSS Brazil advises to exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high levels of serious and violent crime, particularly in major cities. Violent crime as muggings, armed robbery, kidnappings, and sexual assault, is very high. Avoid shanty towns (favelas) in the big cities and if you are attacked or robbed, do not resist. Demonstrations can occur at any time and may turn violent with little or no warning. All United Nations personnel must scrupulously comply with UNDSS procedures and recommendations during their assignment in Brazil. For missions in rural areas or indigenous reservations, special procedures may apply; UN personnel should consult with the local DSS office in advance.
