About this position
We are seeking a proactive, results-oriented consultant with strong data analytics skills to join the front office of the Institutions for Development Sector (IFD) at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). IFD works to strengthen institutions and policies that promote effective public sector management and private sector development, ultimately aiming to improve lives across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
As part of the IFD front office team, you will contribute to strategic decision-making by producing analyses focused on development effectiveness and supporting project teams throughout the loan operations lifecycle, particularly on matters related to evaluation and impact.
IFD designs, executes, supervises, and evaluates operations in key areas such as governance, public sector reform, fiscal management, citizen service delivery, financial markets, innovation, and digital transformation. In this role, you will support the Front Office team and contribute to the effective coordination and delivery of work across Division Chiefs and Operational Staff within the Sector Department.
What you’ll do
- Analyze sector knowledge and quantitative data to support the design, implementation, and operation of IFD initiatives to inform operational and strategic decision-making related to development effectiveness.
- Review and provide input on development effectiveness documents such as Project Proposals, Development Effectiveness Matrices (DEM), Project Monitoring Reports (PMR), Mid-term Evaluations, and Project Completion Reports (PCR).
- Advise project teams on development effectiveness, monitoring and evaluation, and risk management issues, and support the follow-up of related actions to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and effective project execution and closure.
- Systematize lessons learned by analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to identify best practices and inform strategic decision-making across IFD sectors (e.g., state capacity, fiscal management, capital markets, citizen security).
- Support the development of operational tools and guidance materials (e.g., monitoring guides, checklists, templates), contribute to training and document review processes, and assist in the systematization of information to enhance implementation effectiveness and portfolio management.
- Support the management of the Technical Cooperation (TC) portfolio, including data analysis, performance monitoring (e.g., results, alerts, execution, closure), and preparation of reports for internal and external stakeholders. Assist in knowledge generation and dissemination activities related to the TC program.
- Analyze large datasets and develop automated reporting tools to support recurring analyses and generate timely, actionable insights. This includes organizing and
- maintaining databases, streamlining reporting processes, and applying data analytics to inform strategic and operational decisions.
- Provide additional support as needed.
What you'll need
- Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Public Management, International Affairs, Public Policy, Public Administration, Development, or other fields relevant to the role's responsibilities.
- Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in program evaluation, results-based management, and/or development effectiveness frameworks. At least 3 years conducting quantitative analysis for decision making. Knowledge of literature on public policy with particular emphasis on institutional capacity, public sector management, fiscal policy, citizen security, and capital markets. Strong writing skills, with experience in developing analytical reports.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
