Contribute to the identification and development of processes and tools to monitor and visualise modelsโ€™ performance supporting continuous improvement. Participate in formulating new and creative ideas for leveraging the businessโ€™s vast collection of data, while ensuring alignment of activities with the businessโ€™s overall vision and objectives. Support and train less experienced data scientist / analysts assistants. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging EUROCONTROL data and participate in Data Science initiatives. Extract structured and unstructured data from multiple sources, maintain and update databases, and support the preparation of data for analysis, model training, dashboards, reports, and ad-hoc analyses. Contribute to scientific papers, prepare materials for scientific conferences, meetings, workshops, presentations, etc, under the guidance of more experienced staff. Develop knowledge and skills in the field of expertise under the guidance of more experienced staff. Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

Post secondary education or secondary education giving access to post-secondary education, and relevant professional experience of at least 3 years. Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate. A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience. Knowledge or understanding of a variety of machine learning techniques in supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning and their real-world advantages/drawbacks. Mathematics and especially statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc. Scripting and programming skills (Python mandatory). Knowledge of Java or C++ would be an asset. The following would be desirable: Experience acquired in the aviation domain. Experience with common libraries used in data science, such as Tensorflow, Pytorch, Scikit-Learn, MLflow, XGBoost, etc. Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases. Experience with common data science toolkits, such as Python, R, Scala, Spark, Weka, etc. Proficiency in, at least, one of these is highly desirable. Experience with data visualisation tools, such as D3, GGplot, Dash, Shiny, Grafana, Tableau etc. Experience with Cloud environment (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Machine Learning) would be an asset. Knowledge of optimisation algorithms and solvers, including advanced meta-heuristics as well as classical methods. Analytical thinking: you apply a methodical approach to complex information. Creativity and innovation: you apply new approaches. Communication: you are able to foster two-way communication. Networking: you know how to maintain and expand effective networks. Result focus: You seek to improve personal performance. Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become at least a basic user of French at level A1/A2 before the end of the probation period.
The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of 5 Year(s) in accordance with the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. This contract may be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract. The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years. The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level. Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
