Work LocationNairobi Expected duration12 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human Settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The position is located in the External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation Division (ERSKID) of UN-Habitat in Nairobi. ERSKI is responsible for strategic planning, programmatic direction and operationalization of UN-Habitat's focal point role for the New Urban Agenda in the UN system; knowledge management, data and reporting; innovation; resource mobilization; and strategic partnerships. The Knowledge and Innovation Branch is responsible for generating data and analysis which feeds into high-level global reporting on substantive findings as well as identifying emerging innovations and solutions which are scalable, expanding and leveraging greater impact of the UN-Habitat work programme and strategy. Under the overall supervision of the Programme Management Officer , in the Knowledge and Innovation Branch, the consultant will be responsible for the following tasks: Lead advanced data analysis for four key projects. - Compile and organize datasets: Gather and structure existing data to support all four projects, establishing a central analytical resource. - Define analytical processes: Develop standardized methodologies and analytical frameworks to ensure consistency across all projects. - 2026 NUA Report: Develop tailored data analysis and statistical modelling. - SDG11 Report: Develop tailored data analysis and statistical modelling. - Best Practices Database: Develop tailored data analysis and evaluation frameworks. - WUF13 Live Report: Develop tailored data analysis for real-time event metrics. - WUF13 Post-Event Report: Develop tailored data analysis for post-event data analysis. - Data Quality Management: Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across datasets. - Documentation: Develop analytical methodology documentation and user guides for all projects. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or any other related science course is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 2 years of experience in data visualization and presentation experience required. Data analysis and statistical research experience required. Database management experience is required. Workshop design and implementation experience preferred. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
