Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Statistics Service of United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Data Engineer reports to the Director of the Statistics Service. The Data Engineer will be part of a team that will focus on the provision of technical guidance and tools for data compilation and reporting, aiming at empowering national authorities on efforts to track and curb the illicit financial flows. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Data Engineer will be responsible for the following duties: โข Identify key data extraction, transformation, and reporting needs, and develop tools and software solutions, especially to measure illicit financial flows. โข Collaborate with member Statesโ experts to address data-related technical problems and meet their data infrastructure needs. โข Supervise the development of relevant databases, web publishing tools and other software for collection, storage and distribution of statistical data. โข Develop roadmaps for the development and implementation of tools to assist analytics and data scientist team members in building and optimizing products. โข Manage the assigned section of data scientists and data analysts in understanding data features and testing use-cases of data features in analytical environments. โข Collaborate with stakeholders providing advice on data sources, analytics, information systems and data reporting, ensuring compliance with data governance, protection, privacy, and security requirements across systems and architectures. โข Perform other duties as assigned. Work ExperienceA minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in official statistics and data management, integration, modeling, and optimization is required. Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with member States in support of analytics initiatives is required. Experience programming in Python, SAS or R is required. Experience with database programming languages (SQL, etc.) is required. Experience in designing data collection and integration architectures and software solutions for official statistics is required. Experience in Artificial Intelligence, particularly Machine Learning techniques for data mining or extraction of large amounts of data is desirable. Experience providing training and technical guidance to enhance developing countriesโ capacity to use statistical information systems is desirable.
