Work LocationNairobi Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority with a mandate to set the global environmental agenda, promote the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serve as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP coordinates the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEPโs Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners to provide technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and to strengthen the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This internship is located in UNEP/ Ecosystems Division/ Directors Office. There are multiple positions available between Oct 2025 and March 2026. Responsibilities โข Provide support to the Deputy Director, including meeting preparation, and documentation. โข Assist in organizing internal meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking follow-up actions. โข Support special projects and priority initiatives led by the Deputy Director through coordination, research, and follow-up. โข Undertake targeted research and analysis, including internal reports and data, to inform knowledge management and process improvements. โข Assist in preparing internal communications, briefing notes, and presentation materials, as needed. โข Liaise with division teams to gather inputs and support coordination on key activities. โข Undertake other tasks as required, in line with the internโs interests and experience. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or c. Have graduated with a university degree. Applicants must be pursuing qualifications in an area of study that can significantly contribute to the responsibilities outlined and overall work of the Ecosystems Division Directors Office, including: Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: - Background in programme management, business administration, development studies, or other related field; - Demonstrated interest and experience in issues related to in programme coordination, project management, or support to environmental and conservation initiative; - Experience in organizing meetings, or conferences, including managing stakeholder coordination is highly desirable; Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
