Consultant on NZNP Communication and Event Management

Result of ServiceIn addition to supporting the overall communication needs of the project, the work of the consultant will specifically contribute to implementing the third component of the Global Environment Fund-funded ‘Net-Zero Nature-Positive Accelerator Global Platform’ project in close coordination with the knowledge management team. The overall project seeks to support child countries to accelerate efforts to achieve net-zero nature-positive economies through the catalysing of finance and partnerships, the triggering of investment, the promotion of policy and governance coherence, and the curation, diffusion, and transferring of experiences, good practices and lessons learned beyond the participating countries. In this regard, the consultant’s curation and leadership of NZNP knowledge products related to these topics and activities will also contribute to UNEP’s ‘Climate,’ ‘Nature,’ ‘Science and Policy,’ and ‘Finance and Economic Transformation’ Programmes. Work LocationRemote Expected duration12 MONTHS Duties and ResponsibilitiesUNEP is the voice for the environment within the United Nations system, acting as a catalyst, advocate, educator, and facilitator to promote sustainable development through the effective use of the global environment. Its Industry and Economy Division plays a leading role in the Green Economy Initiative, which aims to shift national economies towards a sustainable trajectory. By doing so, it seeks to ensure that growth is driven by increased investment in green sectors and a transition of consumers’ preferences to sustainable goods and services. Located within this Division, the Economic and Trade Policy Unit examines the manner in which economics, trade, and finance interact with the environment, thereby contributing to sustainable development at the local, national, regional, and global levels. As the coordination project of the GEF Net-Zero Nature-Positive Accelerator Integrated Programme (NZNPA IP), this global project serves as the basis for the innovative approach of combining nature and climate global agendas. To this end, the global platform will service, coordinate amongst, and create capacities and enabling conditions for the 12 countries taking part in the NZNPA IP. Under this integrated programme, these countries will be concomitantly implementing their own national NZNPA ‘child projects’. In this sense, the global platform is an ‘enabler’ that will support participating countries to achieve significant global and local environmental benefits through its enabling actions, which lead to further sustainable development co-benefits. In this regard, the global platform’s objectives are to accomplish the following three outcomes: • Outcome 1: Participating countries undertake NZNP planning, taking into consideration new global knowledge shared through the global platform. • Outcome 2: (i) Participating countries take steps to promote NZNP investments, taking into consideration new global knowledge shared through the global platform, and (ii) MDBs and DBs enhance coordination on NZNP financing and MDBs, DFIs and IFIs take steps to apply new global knowledge in NZNP investments. • Outcome 3: Participating countries take steps to disseminate and track NZNP actions, taking into consideration new global knowledge shared through the global platform. In this context, the project seeks to support child country projects in conducting NZNP planning, while disseminating and tracking NZNP actions. While there are communication needs throughout the project, including in outcomes one and two, output 3.2 of the project specifically aims to deliver transparent information on the programme’s impact, experiences, good practices, lessons learned, and progress to achieve net-zero nature positive goals while coordinating inputs from participating child country teams to this end. Therefore, UNEP is looking for a consultant to support these endeavors, specifically by working closely with the project’s knowledge management team to deliver the curation of knowledge management products. While a knowledge management team will develop a dedicated web platform and programme brand identity, as well as provide technical maintenance, a consultant is required for ongoing management, regular content updates, and the implementation of the deliverables under output 3.2 and other related ones, as detailed below. Qualifications/special skillsMaster’s degree in the field of communication, journalism, or marketing. • At least seven years of demonstrable experience on communication, journalism, or marketing. • At least five years of experience working with international organizations, national governments, or research institutes related to environment, sustainable development, and public policy on communication. • Experience working with international cooperation projects Languages• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
