Align the WBBK in person training to the existing UN Blood related Policies and Hemovigilance training course, by end of March 2026 Work LocationRemote Expected duration8 months The deliverables assigned will be delivered within a six months period, which shall fall between 1st of October to the 25 May 2026 Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The United Nations (UN) is committed to enhancing medical capabilities in field operations, ensuring the availability and safe use of blood and blood products in emergencies and austere environments. The UN policy on blood and blood products for peacekeeping and field missions requires the standardization of a list of items that are required for its implementation (Walking Blood Bank Kit โ€“ WBBK) and the development of relevant training related to the use of these items in accordance to the UN Blood Policy and current international standards and best practices. This position is located within the Medical Support Section (MSS), Sourcing Support Service (SSS), Logistics Division (LD), Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM), Department of Operational Support (DOS), at United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ). Consultant: Composition of Walking Blood Bank Kit (WBBK) and Development and Delivery of Training on the Use of the WBBK Items. This consultancy will focus on: 1. Standardizing the composition of the Walking Blood Bank Kit (WBBK), (list of items and quantities) for MSS to facilitate access for TCC and PCC medical personnel. 2. Development of the material required for the delivery of a WBBK in person training focused on hands-on familiarization with WBB operation set up, equipment and Kit items 3. Pilot the delivery of a WBBK in-person training in one UN field mission. 4. Recommend a mechanism to ensure continuity in the delivery of training between UN field mission deployments. 5. Link the WBBK composition and in person training to complement the UN Blood Policy developed by DHMOSH and guidance on the clinical use of blood and advanced resuscitation in field operations . Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the MSS project manager, the Consultant will: 1. Define a list of items including their technical specifications, and quantities that will comprise the composition of the WBBK. 2. Develop the material related to the WBBK in-person training (presentation slides, on-the-job guide(s) that will be distributed at the end of the training, case scenarios and assessment questions etc.. 3. Deliver a pilot WBBK in person training in one UN selected field mission. Facilitate the recording of a live training session. 4. Recommend a mechanism to ensure WBBK training delivery continuity between deployments in the UN field missions. 5. Make specific recommendations on the potential applicability of the WBBK in both Aeromedical Evacuation (AME), as well as in a UN field deployed Damage Control Surgery (DCS) operations. Recommend a methodology to compute potential blood requirements to support the operation of an easily scalable medical support lifesaving DCS. 6. Recommend regular update intervals to ensure the WBBK composition and training remain aligned with international standards and best practices. 7. Ensure alignment of the WBBK composition and training with the UN Policy on โ€œThe Clinical Use of Blood in Field Situationsโ€ and the โ€œHemovigilance System Framework for Data Collection Recording and Reporting Emergency Hemotherapy Course 8. Collaborate on integrating the WBBK composition into the existing Hemovigilance Course , which will provide clinical guidance on the use of blood in advanced resuscitation. 9. Collaborate on the development of briefing notes that highlight the health and sustainability benefits related to the WBBK training. Qualifications/special skillso Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in health management, Medical science or health-related supply chain field or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. o A minimum of five years of experience in hemotherapy, hemovigilance, international blood management policies and best practice is required o Experience in training development and implementation is desirable. o Project management experience, including stakeholder engagement, is desirable. o Experience in analyzing and assessing medical needs and operational constraints is desirable. o Experience in communicating complex medical concepts, and developing briefings for senior management is desirable.
