ICAO's activities in the environment field aim to limit or reduce the impact of international aviation on noise, local air quality and the global climate. This position is situated in the Environmental Standards Section (ES) within the Air Transport Bureau (ATB) in ICAO.ย ES is responsible for the development of Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), conducting quantitative studies and assessment of environmental benefits, and providing guidance on aircraft noise, aircraft engine emissions (local air quality), and aeroplane CO2 emissions. The Section maintains all volumes of Annex 16 - Environmental Protection and databases on aircraft noise, aircraft engine emissions, and aeroplane CO2 emissions in cooperation with the Aviation Data and Analysis Section, contributes to collecting and compiling various environmental aviation statistics including fuel consumption data. It also provides support to the Assembly, the Council, the Air Navigation Commission (ANC), the Air Transport Committee (ATC) and the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP).
The incumbent reports to Chief, Environmental Standards Section (C/ES) within Environment whom reports to the Deputy Director, Environment. In this context, the incumbent will support the C/ES, and other ENV staff members in the further development of ICAO tools, including the ICAO CORSIA CO2 Estimation and Reporting Tool (CERT), Carbon Calculator, ICAO Fuel Saving Estimation Tool (IFSET), and the Environmental Benefit Tool (EBT), and assist in analytical work related to Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).MAJOR DUTIES ANDย RESPONSIBILITIESย ย Function 1 (Incl. Supports the following tasks related to CORSIA tools, achieving results such as:ย
Further develop and refine tools to facilitate the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) under CORSIA, specifically: Support the further development of the ICAO CORSIA CERT, including the maintenance and further development of databases, the calculation methodology, and the online and mobile applications; Support other ENV staff members on the implementation of ICAO CORSIA CERT in line with CORSIA timelines. Contribute to any analytical work related to CORSIA.Function 2 (Incl. Expected Results)
Supports other ENV staff members on the following tasks related to ICAO tools, achieving results such as:
Update and refine the ICAO Environmental suite of tools โ such as ICAO Carbon Calculator, ICAO Green Meetings Calculator, ICAO Fuel Saving Estimation Tool (IFSET), and Environmental Benefit Tool (EBT). Enhance the compatibility of any new tools with the current ICAO Environmental suite of tools. Assist, as requested, in the update and implementation of the ICAO Carbon Emissions Calculator application for a mobile device including add-ons. Further develop and improve the interfaces for ICAO tools based on user queries, and data review. Propose any further development of operations/functions to enable the further improvement of Environmental tools. Assist in the development of connections between the ICAO CORSIA CERT, the CCR and other ICAO tools.Function 3 (Incl. Expected Results)
Supports the work of ENV staff members in the design and implementation of capacity building and assistance activities for the CORSIA implementation,ย achieving results such as:
Provide technical assistance during seminars/workshops related to the CORSIA implementation and, as needed, present information related to ICAO tools. Develop practical guidelines/manuals for ICAO tools. Respond to queries submitted to the ICAO Secretariat by users of the ICAO CORSIA CERT.Function 4 (Incl. Expected Results)
Assists other ENV members in the development and preparation of various materials, documentation, reports, and presentations related to Environment, achieving results such as:
Assist in the development of documentation and presentations related to meetings and other requirement for CORSIA. Assist in the administration and manage the content of the ICAO websites associated with all ICAO environmental tools and provide research material as requiredย and process material to be published on the ICAO Environmental website. Draft replies to public enquiries on environment, particularly related to tools and data.Function 5 (Incl. Expected Results)

A first level university degree, preferably in engineering, mathematics, science, statistics or a related discipline, is required.

The selected consultant is expected to be employed for six months, with the possibility to extend.
Please note that the monthly rate for Band A-2 varies from USD $3,991 to USD $5,172.
