Work LocationRemote Expected duration5 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesGuided by General Assembly resolution 62/141, in which the Assembly established the mandate, the Special Representative is a global, independent advocate for the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children. The Special Representative has been requested in September 2023 to take under her political leadership the Pathfinding initiative (a former component of the Global Partnership on Ending Violence Against Children) in line with her mandate to act as a catalyst to stimulate the engagement of Member States and as a bridgebuilder to mobilize action to achieve SDG commitments to tackle violence and its drivers. Under the guidance of the SRSG VAC and the Chief of Staff, the Consultant will be undertaking the following tasks: -Engage under the Pathfinding component and expansion of Pathfinding countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and enhance expert capacity through an initial period of four months service to support the transition of Pathfinding and to expand engagement in particular with countries and partners at regional and national levels in MENA to accelerate efforts to end violence against children including gender mainstreaming (20%); and to strengthen collaboration with States, UN entities, regional organizations, and NGOs. -Support in gathering data information, preparing press releases in Arabic for communication and advocacy purposes as well as organizing regional events both in the Arab and Africa regions. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, urban studies, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area required Experience in the field of child rights and child protection is required.
