GEO-LDN is a flagship initiative of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). It helps governments to access the necessary datasets and tools to prioritize interventions, monitor outcomes to manage land better and to report on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 15.3.1.The LDN Toolbox is a curated selection of datasets, analytical tools and other resources to help countries measure and monitor their extent of land degradation, and plan to achieve LDN. The vision for the LDN Toolbox includes that the tools should meet a set of quality standards, and that all tools and datasets should be as interoperable as possible. This consultancy will source feedback from a range of end users on the LDN Toolbox, review the contents for consistency with quality standards, and prioritize tools and datasets to support improved interoperability and improved leverage of cross-benefits with toolboxes of other Rio conventions.

The consultant is expected to:
- Revisit the outcome of previous work on the LDN Toolbox together with the GEO LDN Data Working Group;

- Use a participative approach to seek advice from key users on the utility and development needs for the Toolbox;

- Define metrics for awareness of the toolbox and;

- Come up with essential next steps to make the LDN Toolbox a global benchmark for curated, interoperable datasets and analytical tools to monitor land degradation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
MSc degree in (or closely related to) Remote Sensing, PhD preferred.
Experience
The contractor should have at least 10 years of experience in all of the areas of expertise outlined in the Accountabilities/Responsibilities section of this TOR, more specifically in the use of following technologies:

- Proven experience in advanced approaches of remote sensing, geospatial analysis and data management (e.g. cloud-based processing pipelines, data cubes), with a focus on open-source technologies.

- Proven experience with data quality assessments and data and interoperability standards.

- Ability to communicate complex technological concepts to different audiences.
Other requirements
Previous work experience with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) or the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) is an asset in order to understand the complex requirements of Earth Observation datasets for global environmental monitoring.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.
