Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Communications Officer in Kyiv.

About the job

As Communications Officer, you will promote DRCโ€™s mission, mandate, work and advocacy strategies in Ukraine, working closely with programme teams to identify appropriate methods to communicate with relevant audiences. You will play a central role in planning and producing communication materials, ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements, and strengthening DRCโ€™s profile in-country.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Structure, update and mainstream communication processes, including tools, templates and SOPs. Plan, develop and produce communication materials (Comms Digest, social media, interviews, brochures, stories, photos, videos) and keep the DRC website and Facebook page updated. Act as editor-in-chief for Pravovsim communication content. Coordinate and implement communication and visibility plans for projects. Ensure compliance with donor communication and visibility requirements. Build the capacity of field teams in communication activities (multimedia tools, training, technical support). Support in managing media requests and preparing DRC staff for interviews. Collect content for stories, photo stories, videos and other DRC materials. Coordinate external communication service providers (photographers, designers, translators). Maintain a database of photos, videos and visibility materials. Support the organisation of internal and external meetings and events.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have strong communication skills, the ability to develop compelling materials, and previous experience in communications within the humanitarian or civil society sector. You should be proactive, organised, and able to work independently while engaging with different stakeholders.

Masterโ€™s degree in communication, journalism, advocacy or similar. At least 2 years of experience in communications and/or advocacy. Minimum 1 year of experience in an INGO/CSO communications role. Strong writing and editing skills for communication and advocacy materials. Experience with Canva and Adobe (designing, editing and producing publications). Full professional proficiency in English and Ukrainian.

Desirable

Experience in capacity building and delivering training. Experience in managing social media platforms for organisations. Knowledge of donor visibility rules. Experience coordinating external communication service providers.

We offer

Contract length: 3 monthsโ€™ probation, followed by a 6- or 9-month renewable contract (depending on funding). Band: H. Designation of Duty Station: Kyiv. Start date: as soon as possible.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Councilโ€™s Terms of Employment for national employees.
