Work LocationUN House ESCWA Expected duration2 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: ESCWA Communication Unit provides media support to all ESCWA Clusters. This includes producing content, monitoring the traditional and digital media landscape, by compiling on daily bases all the clipping featuring the Commissionโs work/event/activities, and analyzing them. Under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and Chief of External Relations and Outreach, duties of the Communications Intern may include, but are not limited to: 1- Assisting in drafting and preparing press releases; 2- Assisting in reporting for news stories; 3- Attending and assisting in covering conferences and meetings; 4- Taking photos/videos at conferences and events; 5- Preparing posts for social media platforms; 6- Compiling social media analytics and trends; 7- Researching issues related to the work of the Commission; 8- Media monitoring and analysis; 9- Assisting in other ad-hoc activities. The duration of a United Nations internship is for a minimum of two months on a full-time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); 2. Applicants must: (a) be computer literate in standard software applications. (b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and (c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No previous experience is required for this job opening. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
