ContextThe World Health Organization (WHO) is the directing and coordinating authority on international health within the United Nations system. The WHO Tanzania Country Office works closely with the Ministry of Health and partners to strengthen health systems, improve health outcomes, and respond to public health emergencies. To support its mandate, WHO Tanzania is seeking a qualified and motivated Communications Assistant (UNV) to enhance visibility, strengthen media relations, manage digital platforms, and document impact stories that highlight WHOโ€™s contributions to improving health in Tanzania. The WHO Country Office is committed to delivering on its mandate by promoting health, keeping the world safe, and serving the vulnerable. Communication is central to achieving these goals, through effective messaging, media relations, strategic stakeholder engagement, and public awareness campaigns. The Communications Assistant will work to ensure the successful implementation of the WHO Country Officeโ€™s communications strategy in support of its programmes and priorities, increasing awareness and visibility of WHOโ€™s work among national and international stakeholders.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Programme Management Officer in coordination with relevant technical officers, the Communications Assistant role will include: Strategic Communication & Media Relations: โ€ข Support the Implementation and monitor the WHO Tanzania communication strategy and plans. โ€ข Maintain strong relations with media partners, draft press releases, speeches, briefing notes, and feature articles. โ€ข Support the organization press conferences, interviews, and media briefings. Content Development & Multimedia Production โ€ข Draft and design engaging materials including social media content, human-interest stories, infographics, brochures, and newsletters. โ€ข Plan, shoot, and edit short videos to document WHOโ€™s work and success stories. โ€ข Manage multimedia archives and ensure branding compliance. Digital & Social Media Management โ€ข Manage WHO Tanzaniaโ€™s social media platforms and website, ensuring timely updates and engaging storytelling. โ€ข Monitor analytics and audience engagement to optimize digital outreach. Campaigns, Events & Visibility โ€ข Support communication and visibility for WHO-led campaigns (e.g., World Health Days, immunization drives, emergency response). โ€ข Coordinate advocacy events and ensure communication assets are produced and disseminated. โ€ข Produce high-quality visibility materials in line with WHO guidelines. Monitoring, Evaluation & Internal Communication โ€ข Track communication activities and report on impact and achievements. โ€ข Provide regular updates to WHO Tanzania leadership. โ€ข Support internal communications including staff newsletters and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
