ContextThis United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of the UNV Regional Office for the Arab States initiatives to strengthen its workforce through the integration of capacities with a skillset aligned with Corporate and Regional strategic objectives, here related to communications and digital outreach, with a focus on Maghreb countries led by the UNV Multi-Country Field Unit for Maghreb. The UNV Multi-Country Field Unit (MCFU) for Maghreb was established in Tunisia in 2018 and covers Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Algeria. It works with and through partners (UN agencies, funds and programmes and UN missions, mainly) to integrate volunteers in programme country efforts to advance national development priorities. The Multi-Country Field Unit (MCFU) plays a key role in coordinating field-level engagement, outreach, and volunteer mobilization and placement across multiple country contexts. Effective communication is critical to building visibility, attracting diverse talent, and amplifying the impact of MCFUโs work. The Communications and Outreach Associate will support communication efforts, with a particular focus on content development, social media management, talent engagement, and event support. Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Regional Communication Analyst and in collaboration with the Multi-Country Coordinator for Maghreb, the UNV Communication and Outreach Associate will take up the following functions: 1. Contribution to the Planning, Implementation, and Reporting on MCFU Communications and Outreach Engagement โข Support the design and implementation of the MCFU and RO communications and outreach strategy plan, aligned with regional and global communications strategies. โข Contribute to the development of the MCFU and the regional annual communication and outreach work-plans and timelines. โข Assist in preparing internal and external communications reports, highlighting key activities, results, and metrics. โข Monitor progress against communication indicators and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement. 2. Development of Communication Outputs โข Draft and design engaging content for internal and external audiences, including social media cards and reels, calls for registration (e.g., for talent acquisition, volunteer opportunities), editorial content (e.g., success stories, feature articles, testimonials), flyers, banners, presentations, and other visual materials โข Ensure content is tailored to platform-specific formats and audience profiles. โข Maintain alignment with UNV branding and communication guidelines. 3. Management of MCFU Social Media Channels (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter ) โข Lead the day-to-day management of MCFUโs social media presence across assigned platforms. โข Develop and implement a posting calendar, ensuring regular and timely publication of content. โข Monitor engagement and performance metrics (reach, clicks, comments, shares, etc.) and adjust strategies accordingly. โข Respond to messages and comments, ensuring timely and respectful interaction with audiences. โข Stay informed of social media trends and recommend creative content ideas or tools (e.g., reels, challenges, hashtags). โข Extend support to other UNV Arab States social media channels as per FU/RO needs and priorities. 4. Support the Organization of Onsite Activities and Events (as applicable) โข Assist in planning and coordinating on-the-ground engagement and outreach events such as info sessions, talent fairs, volunteer drives, or campaign launches. โข Support the production of event materials and communication assets before, during, and after events. โข Capture and document key moments through photography, video, and live posting where applicable. โข Liaise with vendors and stakeholders as needed to ensure smooth execution. โข Carry out mission travel in support of MCFU and other FU/RO events and activities depending on needs and priorities. 5. Contribute to MCFU advocacy and talent outreach Engagement โข Provide communications and logistical support to MCFU-led campaigns, advocacy efforts, or talent outreach drives. As well as for similar FU/RO activities as a stop-gap capacity as needed. โข Support ad hoc communication tasks such as preparation of briefings, success stories, case studies, or donor visibility content. โข Perform any other duties related to communications and engagement as assigned by the supervisor.

Living conditions and remarksTunis is generally considered a safe duty station with a moderate security level, though standard precautions should be observed, especially in crowded areas or during public demonstrations. Access and air travel are facilitated by the well-connected Tunis-Carthage International Airport, with regular flights to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Cultural norms require respectful dress, especially in government buildings and rural areas, though urban centers are more relaxed. Alcohol is available in licensed venues, though discretion is advised. The cost of living is moderate; imported goods and private schooling or healthcare may be relatively expensive. Accommodation ranges from furnished apartments to villas, with popular expatriate neighborhoods including La Marsa, Carthage, and El Menzah. Food and water are generally accessible, though bottled water is recommended for drinking. Electricity supply is stable. Medical services are adequate in urban centers, with access to public and private hospitals; serious cases may require evacuation. Banking services are widely available, including international ATMs and electronic payments. Communications infrastructure is well developed, with mobile networks, high-speed internet, and postal services broadly available.
