The Communication officer will provide direct support to the East Area Office in the implementation of NRCโs internal and external communication initiatives. In particular, he/she will be responsible for drafting, editing and translating communication materials for the media and social networks while keeping a close liaison with the Communications staff of the Country Office and other area offices.
Generic responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to NRC policies, handbooks, guidelines and donor requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of NRC Communications Strategy, based on the Country Advocacy Strategy, and in line with NRCโs Global Communications Strategy.
- Support the East Area Office with preparation of the communications materials to increase visibility of the NRC work in East region of Ukraine.
- Implement delegated communication function portfolio according to plan of action.
- Develop and suggest the remedies for information dissemination.
- Editing of NRCโs outgoing correspondence.
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
- Ensure proper filing of media and communication materials.
- Promote and share ideas for improvement of the function.
Specific responsibilities:
- Undertake regular travel to NRC program locations to gather content relating to NRC programs for the development of public and/ or internal information materials, and support program staff with communications-related activities.
- Ensure the delivery of quality communication products in English, Ukrainian and Russian (feature stories, press releases, infographics, photo-stories, case studies, etc.)
- Translating and proofreading of booklets, brochures, leaflets, reports, infographics etc. as assigned, make sure that the communication materials are in compliance with donorsโ visibility requirements.
- Establish and maintain contact with the local and regional media, including managing media requests on NRCโs programme activities.
- Collaborate with communication departments of Head, regional, Country and other area offices in implementing of communication and advocacy strategies through mainstream and social media, public events, global website, etc.
- Provide liaison with local authoritiesโ media office.
- Monitor coverage of the local and regional media.
- Support NRC project in organization of public events, round tables, meetings, etc.
- Provide translation/interpretation whenever needed.
- Represent the organization as spokesperson in media channel upon EAO management request.
- Other job-related duties assigned by the line manager.
Generic professional competencies:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, media and public information. Experience in humanitarian, civil society, government, human rights sectors would be an asset.
- Bachelor's degree or Higher education in a field of in journalism/communication, political studies, human rights or any relevant subject or demonstrated relevant experience in lieu of official academic background.
- Experience in preparation of communication materials for mainstream and social media.
- Advanced knowledge of English and proficient knowledge of Ukrainian.
- Knowledge of photo and video management software (Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, etc)
- Good Knowledge of the software programs (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential.
- Strong work ethic and focus on results.
- Strong organizational and team working skills.
