Under the direct supervision of the Communication, Partnership & Reporting Officer and the overall supervision of the Country Director, the Communication Assistant will be responsible for the following duties.1. Assist in coordination, administrative duties and provision of specialized services, to support staff in the development, preparation and execution of communications campaigns for target audiences.
2. Monitor and coordinate materials, schedules, facilities and clearances, and provide support for special events, and video/film, photographic and radio projects.
3. Conduct clearly defined research and prepare reports and provide data that enables informed decision-making.
4. Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
5.Prepare high quality creative and digital content such as video, film, television, audio, postcards, and photographic material for social media platforms and print publications, and graphics for signages and branded merchandise, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and standards.
6. Distribute communications guidelines to WFP staff to refer to when creating content.
7. Manage and maintain records and databases, such as journalist and media outlet contact lists, to ensure the information is updated, accurate, organized and readily available for others to access.
8. Gather information for responses to queries and requests for support, following standard processes, and obtaining guidance to respond as required, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
9. Under supervision, liaise with WFP staff and the media in a timely manner, to support aligned activities and an effective approach to communications within WFP.
10. Perform any other duty(ies) as may assigned by the Head of Field Office.Minimum Academic Qualifications Guide
Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.Desired Experiences for entry into the role:
A minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in communication activities and strategies is expected. Demonstrate the ability to perform routine communication techniques and activities, videography and photography, in line with WFP operating standards through day-to-day work. Has supported in providing ad-hoc guidance to new staff members. Demonstrate a sense of responsibility, proactiveness and initiative to respond and/or act independently under minimal supervision and general guidance.Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty stationโs language, if different.
