5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (ROAP) is committed to leveraging innovation and emerging technologies to advance gender equality and empower women and girls. Within the context of its AI for Gender Equality initiatives and the regional \"30 for 2030\" youth engagement program, this assignment aligns with the priorities of promoting digital and green skills, fostering climate justice, and building youth capacities for sustainable development. UN Women ROAP envision to collaborate with technology and innovation companies in the Asia Pacific region to promote women empowerment and leadership in the digital economy, promote women safe and inclusive cyber spaces and mobilize private sector companies to commit to the Action Collation on Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality. This will require wide consultations with women and girls, young feminists, tech for gender equality experts and CSOs from across the region. These efforts align with the regionโ€™s broader needs, as escalating natural hazards, climate-related emergencies, and crises increasingly erode development gains. Women and youth, particularly those from marginalized groups, face heightened risks due to pervasive inequalities and limited access to resources, making their inclusion essential in building resilient, equitable societies.

ContextThe UN Women AI School is a pioneering initiative under UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), designed to build inclusive AI literacy and capacity for gender equality. In alignment with the UN 2.0 vision, the AI School empowers young leaders, UN staff, policy makers, and civil society actors with foundational to advanced skills in AI, while centering gender-responsive innovation, digital justice, and ethical AI. The 2025 program is organized into three adaptive learning tracksโ€”for UN Staff, Policy Makers, and the Publicโ€”and includes expert talks, hands-on projects, and a graduation competition. The UN Volunteer Specialist will play a crucial role in advancing ROAPโ€™s commitment to leveraging technology and youth leadership for gender-responsive climate action, humanitarian interventions, and womenโ€™s economic empowerment. This role will focus on documenting and communicating the impact of regional AI for Gender Equality initiatives, integrating digital and green skills development, and supporting the design and dissemination of strategic communication assets and knowledge products.

Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Advocacy, Innovation & Campaigns Coordinator, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Content Creation & Communication: - Develop engaging content (blogs, stories, visuals, social media posts, videos) to communicate the vision, activities, and impact of the AI School. - Coordinate and draft the AI Schoolโ€™s monthly newsletter and highlight stories from participants and partners. - Produce digital assets and visuals aligned with UN Womenโ€™s branding guidelines. Knowledge Management: - Organize and maintain a repository of AI School materials (presentations, recordings, toolkits, readings). - Assist in documenting best practices, case studies, and lessons learned throughout the program cycle. - Support the packaging of participant outputs (e.g., knowledge products, policy briefs, tools) for dissemination. Monitoring & Impact Documentation: - Collect feedback, testimonials, and data for monitoring the AI Schoolโ€™s reach, relevance, and impact. - Design summary reports, one-pagers, and infographics to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders. Event Support & Engagement: - Support the coordination and promotion of expert talks, graduation events, and side sessions during UN Weeks (e.g., UN 2.0, The Commission on the Status of Women(CSW)). - Liaise with UN Womenโ€™s youth, communication, and innovation teams to amplify cross-sector engagement and visibility. Collaboration & Innovation: - Participate in weekly planning calls and brainstorms with the AI School core team. - Contribute to the ideation of new engagement formats, including interactive media, AI-powered storytelling, and digital exhibitions.

Living conditions and remarksThailand is a newly-industrialized country with an incredible history. In the commercial centre and capital city Bangkok, workers will find an industrial and service economy that has cemented the city as the one of economic centres of South East Asia. Bangkok is very modern, and so you can expect good telecommunications systems, high-quality architecture, public transportation networks and a generally metropolitan culture, with plenty of bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. There are over 10 million people living in Bangkok, and the population is growing. utside the capital, Thailandโ€™s diverse landscape is less modernized and predominantly agricultural. The mountainous north is littered with temples known as โ€˜watsโ€™, which are popular with backpackers and tourists, and which reflect the countryโ€™s strong association with Buddhism. Along the Malay Peninsula and throughout the Gulf of Thailand in the south, one will find long stretches of tropical beaches and islands, including the popular destination of Koh Samui. Being close to the equator, Thailand is hot all year round, with a monsoon season lasting most of the summer. For this reason, air conditioning is essential for people living in Thailand.
