Result of ServiceThe incumbent will ultimately be contributing substantively to three webinars organized online Work LocationRemotely Expected duration3 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) works with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) to support efforts to build the capacity of Arab States to respond to the challenges faced by climate change through regional approaches that inform climate policy and finance. This collaboration is conducted through a project implemented under the umbrella of the Arab Centre for Climate Change Policies, which is situated in the Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability Cluster at ESCWA. General objective The climate finance expert will contribute to the review of policy briefs, analytical notes and guidance document and contribute to consultation processes on the proposed green/climate finance taxonomy for the Arab region. Duties and responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and the overall guidance of the Cluster Lead of the Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability Cluster, the consultant would be responsible for the following duties, namely to: โข Update the background policy brief that reviews sustainable, green and climate taxonomy models, including providing best practices and lessons learned based on the proposed approach. โข Prepare presentations and contribute to consultations in three successive online webinars during September, October and December based on the developed background policy brief and the draft guidance note on the green/climate finance taxonomy for the Arab region โข Support the development of the agenda of the three webinars and identification of key resources and speakers. โข Deliver the presentations and contribute to the discussion on the developed taxonomy with stakeholders. โข Update the developed guidance note on the green/climate finance taxonomy methodology for the Arab region based on the outcome of discussions with stakeholders in the webinars. โข Support the development of the training materials on sustainable, green and climate finance taxonomies with ESCWA team. Qualifications/special skillsA Masterโs degree in development economics, finance, climate change or environmental policy is required. A Ph.D. is desirable. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of five years of experience working on climate change policy is required. Previous experience working in the area of green or climate finance taxonomies is required. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Experience working in the Arab region is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
