This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a remote Aboriginal community on Mornington Island, while playing a key role in our Long Day Care Centre and supporting the local children and their families. Located in the lower Gulf of Carpentaria in far north Queensland, Mornington Island is the traditional country of the Lardil people. Traditional culture is very important to the people, and youโll learn a lot in this opportunity about the culture, the importance of dance, art and the land.

A place to make a difference:
In this full-time, permanent role, youโll work alongside the early childhood staff at the Kirdi Mayarr Early Learning Centre. Reporting to and supporting the Director, youโll help manage the daily operations of the centre, and promote engaging relationships with staff, families, children and the local community.
Our centre is a 39 place centre for children ranging from 0 to 5 years old, with 3 rooms operational. Our purpose is to ensure as many children from our community have access to a culturally appropriate, play-based early childhood education while supporting our local people to gain their qualifications in early childhood education and strengthening the workforce on the island. The opening hours are 7.30am to 5.30pm and shift times are negotiable, to allow you to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle.
Based on Mornington Island, you will need to be resilient and respectful to fit into the traditional culture of the community.
You will make a difference by:
Planning and delivering teaching and learning programs Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities within a culturally appropriate framework Inspiring, motivating and challenging educators in a culturally appropriate way Developing training and development plans with the Director Committing to engage with local community Building trusting relations with families to break down the barriers that prevent them from accessing supportA place to feel valued:
Youโre an experienced Child Development Specialist who is based on Mornington Island, and has a passion for working in remote areas and building capacity in Aboriginal communities. Your cultural sensitivity allows you to build strong relationships with people in a respectful way and enables you to engage with the community to develop lasting partnerships. Youโre excited by a challenge and willing to go above and beyond.
This role requires:
Diploma of Early Childhood, Childrenโs Services or equivalent qualification, or significant equivalent experience Skills, knowledge, understanding and experience working with Aboriginal children and families in Remote Community Proven experience in a Child Development Specialist role in an early childhood centre based care and education service Working knowledge of and commitment to the National Regulations, Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), National Quality Standards (NQS)A place to belong:
