5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesIstanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) supports the private sector and foundations to become transformative partners in development through research, advocacy for inclusive business, facilitation of public-private dialogue and brokering partnerships. IICPSD, established in 2011 in partnership with the Government of Tรผrkiye, is one of UNDP's six Global Policy Centres. It leads UNDPโ€™s global work on private sector and foundations and supports UNDPโ€™s offices all over the world. The Center focuses on four thematic areas: 1. Inclusive Business; 2. Private Sector Engagement in Skills Development; 3. Impact investing; 4. Resilience and Crisis Response. The Center also hosts four global initiatives: Business Call to Action, SDG Philanthropy Platform, Global Islamic Finance and Impact Investing Platform and Connecting Business Initiative.

ContextThe Tech Volunteers for Resilience (Tech4R) programme, co-led by the UNDP Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, mobilizes skilled digital volunteers to co-create open-source solutions that enhance inclusion, resilience, and recovery. In collaboration with UNDP Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian Youth Centre, Tech4R supports the VidNOVA:UA Programme โ€” a national initiative that engages youth across Ukraine in rebuilding their communities through interregional exchanges. The initiativeโ€™s Digital Map of Youth Exchanges (VidNOVA:UA) visualizes these projects through an open-source web platform, highlighting the reach and impact of youth-led recovery efforts. Digital Solutions Volunteers will contribute to the enhancement and sustainability of this platform through technical, design, data, and documentation support. The multidisciplinary volunteer team will ensure that the platform is accessible, accurate, and user-friendly โ€” serving as a digital tool that amplifies community-led development across Ukraine.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for a team of online volunteers who can support the project team in: - Develop and optimize components of the web-based map using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or low-code tools. - Integrate and validate datasets through APIs or other data pipelines (e.g., Google Sheets, OpenSheet API). - Process, clean, and visualize geographic and tabular data using open-source tools (e.g., Leaflet, QGIS). - Design and test responsive, accessible user interfaces that follow universal design principles. - Conduct quality assurance and performance testing to ensure reliability across devices.
