Work LocationBangkok Expected duration3 - 6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the Asia-Pacific region. The Commission promotes cooperation among its 53 member States and 9 associate members in pursuit of solutions to sustainable development challenges. ESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations. The ESCAP secretariat supports inclusive, resilient and sustainable development in the region by generating action-oriented knowledge, and by providing technical assistance and capacity-building services in support of national development objectives, regional agreements and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. To enhance efficiency, innovation and impact, the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS) seeks to embed smart digital solutions and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline coordination, data analysis and communication efforts. Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officers and Chief of CKMS, the intern is expected to support CKMSโ work on the following activities: โข Assist in identifying and implementing AI-driven tools and digital solutions to improve coordination, communications outputs and existing workflows within CKMS. โข Work with the Officers to leverage digital tools (e.g., social media platforms, the public website) for effective stakeholder engagement. โข Assist in creating data-driven communication strategies, including the use of AI for content optimization and audience targeting. โข Provide technical assistance to CKMS staff on the use of digital tools and AI applications. โข Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of implemented digital solutions and communication strategies. โข Support the development of engaging multimedia content (e.g., infographics, social media reels, short videos, motion graphics, podcasts) to communicate ESCAPโs impact and initiatives. โข Other duties as assigned by supervisor. This internship is UNPAID and full time. The minimum duration of an internship is three months and can be extended to a total of six months. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours per week) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโs degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study in Digital Communications, Information Technology, Business Technology or a related field is desirable for this position. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms (e.g., MS Office Suite, collaboration tools, social media, multimedia production and AI applications such as Canva, CapCut, ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini) Basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is an asset. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
