Agriculture and Forestry Investment Intern
The GGGI PNG program is seeking a talented and motivated individual to support the development of climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable forestry initiatives under the Climate FIRST Project. The intern will assist in technical research, project development, stakeholder engagement, and investment planning to support the identification and preparation of agriculture and forestry investment opportunities.
The Agriculture and Forestry Investment Intern will work under the guidance of the Project Manager and will work closely with Climate Investment Advisors and other team members to support the identification of sustainable agriculture and forest-related investment opportunities, contribute to the development of project proposals, and assist in analyzing technical, environmental, and market data to shape bankable projects.

The GGGI Papua New Guinea (PNG) Country Program, hosted at the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), is scaling up its activities to provide advisory and implementation support to PNG in climate resilience and green growth initiatives. This is done in close cooperation with CCDA and other relevant national and international stakeholders. GGGI is inviting applications for internship positions within the PNG Country Program under the Climate Finance Initiative for Resilience and a Sustainable Transition (FIRST) Project funded by the Australiaโs Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

The intern will assist in technical research, project development, stakeholder engagement, and investment planning to support the identification and preparation of agriculture and forestry investment opportunities.
The Agriculture and Forestry Investment Intern will work under the guidance of the Project Manager and will work closely with Climate Investment Advisors and other team members to support the identification of sustainable agriculture and forest-related investment opportunities, contribute to the development of project proposals, and assist in analyzing technical, environmental, and market data to shape bankable projects.
The assignment will include the following but not limited to:
Support the development of climate-resilient agriculture and forestry project concepts by assist in the identifying of green investment opportunities in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, reforestation, and land-use practices, aligned with PNGโs climate and green growth priorities. Conduct research and collect sector-specific data by compiling relevant agricultural and forestry data, including supply chains, market access, carbon sequestration potential, and land use trends, to support project preparation and policy alignment. Assist with proposal development and pipeline planning by providing support on the drafting of concept notes and investment proposals, including reviewing feasibility and sustainability of interventions, potential financing sources, and institutional arrangements. Support stakeholder coordination and GEDSI integration to identify and engage with key agriculture and forestry stakeholders (e.g. government agencies, cooperatives, farmersโ groups, private sector actors) while supporting the integration of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) into all activities. Maintain accurate records and support reporting ensuring all documentation related to project development, consultations, and analysis is properly organized and accessible on MS Teams. Assist in compiling reports and summaries for internal and donor use.The intern will work under the supervision of the Climate FIRST project manager. The internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, international environment, working on critical issues related to sustainable development. The intern will have the chance to develop technical skills, understand the functioning of an international organization, and gain insights into the operational aspects of GGGI.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a Bachelorโs (final year), Masterโs or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months. Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Instituteโs work Applicants must be available to commit to the full duration of the internship as agreed upon with the supervising staff. Proficiency in English is essential. Candidates must be either Papua New Guinea (PNG) nationals or foreign nationals with a valid work permit to work in PNG.
QUALIFICATION
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelorโs or Masterโs program in agriculture, forestry, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field from a recognized institution. Familiarity with sustainable agriculture, forestry, agroecology, climate adaptation, or land-use planning is highly desirable. Understanding of investment planning, environmental finance, or value chain development in the agriculture/forestry sectors is an asset. Strong research and analytical skills with proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proven analytical and report writing skills are advantageous
