5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesThe Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts (MYSA) is responsible for the development and implementation of Youth, Sport, and Arts development programmes to facilitate realization of their full potential and contribute to their physical and mental well-being. Following the change of Government on 12th August 2021, Parliament issued a Government Gazette Notice number 1123 in September 2021 which spelled out the mandates of the realigned Ministries including the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts. The Department of Arts Development was created for the first time as a separate department in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts. Zambia has never had a National Arts Policy in its history and therefore the Arts Sector has not only lacked policy guidance but has also been uncoordinated. This has led to minimal impact of the arts sector and its growth in the country to be stunted. The realignment of the Ministry is envisioned to give the arts sector the needed attention for its transformation to a level to which it could effectively contribute to the Gross Domestic Product of the country meaningfully.

ContextThe Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts (MYSA) drives youth, sport, and arts programs to empower young people and promote skills development for Zambiaโ€™s economic growth. National Youth Day, celebrated annually on March 12 since 1966, honors youth contributions to independence and national development. The 2026 Youth Week (March 2โ€“12) will focus on practical skills, innovation, and leadership to enhance youth participation in governance and development. In line with the National Volunteer Policy (2022), MYSA recognizes volunteerism as a key driver of progress and invites 150 online volunteers to support the celebrations, fostering collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts (MYSA) is responsible for the development and implementation of youth, sport and arts programmes to facilitate realization of their full potential. Through its Department of Youth, the Ministry coordinates, monitors, and executes youth development initiatives focused on empowerment and skills training. The departmentโ€™s overarching goal is to deliver practical, effective, and sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by young people enabling them to contribute meaningfully to Zambiaโ€™s economic transformation and job creation. The National Youth Day is celebrated every 12 March since 1966. It honours the youth's sacrifices in Zambiaโ€™s independence struggle and highlights their ongoing role in national development. Over time, the National Youth Week has grown into a platform recognizing youth contributions both historically and presently. Additionally, the Youth Week has encouraged youth-led transformations, and initiatives in entrepreneurship, consultations and climate change. The 2026 National Youth Day celebrations are schedule for 2nd to 12th March, 2026 in Zambia. The theme focuses on practical skills, innovation, and leadership to further empower young people as key drivers of Zambiaโ€™s economic and social progress. The overall objective for 2026 is to ensure that the Commemoration of Youth Day celebrations reflect an inclusive youth participation in governance and national development, comprehensively incorporated in institutional systems, from community to national structural levels. In line with the National Volunteer Policy (2022), the Ministry recognizes volunteerism as a key driver of social and economic development. The youth week presents a unique opportunity to promote volunteerism as a core national value, as it will focus on a consultative and participatory approach. The Ministry acknowledges the vital role volunteers play in the youth sector and is therefore inviting 150 online volunteers to support the successful delivery of the 2026 National Youth Week.
